Co-locating ASIL-D Safety Workloads and Android Automotive on a Single SoC

Automakers previously required two separate chips to run digital instrument clusters and central displays. Using Type-1 hypervisors, developers can now co-locate mixed-criticality workloads on modern multi-core processors while guaranteeing full ASIL-D certification.

Fault Containment and Silent Rebooting

If the Android Automotive guest OS panics due to a memory leak in a third-party application, the Type-1 hypervisor isolates the crash. The safety cluster continues updating speed and warnings in real-time, while the hypervisor triggers a background silent reboot of the Android partition in under 2 seconds.

Shared Audio and CAN Bus Virtualization

Audio chimes for safety indicators (turn signals, collision warnings) must take precedence over multimedia music streams. Hypervisor-level audio mixing guarantees that ASIL-B warning sounds preempt Android media playback with zero latency and independent hardware volume limiters.
